Edit Sony/Panasonic/JVC/Canon MTS or M2TS shooting to iMovie

Part 1. iMovie 8 and AVCHD AVCHD files
Recently I took some AVCHD files with my Sony SR1 and expect to import to iMovie which is intuitive and easy to comprehend, but my iMovie 8 sees them cut and I can't select them. However, I tried the suggestion from apple forum "copy the .m2ts or .mts files to an external fire wire drive, iMovie 08 detects the drive and opens the import dialog for clip selection.", the result comes that iMovie still does not find it.

Closely I have a glance of the iMovie private formats, here it is:
Movie File Type
MPEG-2 and AVCHD
DV-Standard and HDV (High Definition Video)
QuickTime Movie
MEPG-4

As an AVCHD camcorder user we are easy to get that there are two types of files. .mts which is the native file on the Sony SR1 and .m2ts which is the file as it is converted (copied) onto your hard drive with the Sony Disk Utility that comes with the SR1, and actually m2ts is based on BDAV MPEG-2 Transport Stream container file format.

Part 2. Convert AVCHD files to iMovie with Mac MTS to iMovie Converter

With my faithful friend Google I found a decoder enables me to import mts to imovie, it works well and I appreciate it much, I'd share my nice experience with you and hope this will help you if you also meet my awesome puzzle on iMovie.

You can free download from the link above, it's safe and without plug-in.
First, after it appeared in your Mac "Download'' dialogue just to install the MTS to iMovie Converter Mac.
Second, Click "Add File" button to add MTS, M2TS files from your Mac hard disc. I tried to import several MTS/M2TS files one time which is ok.
Third, Set MP4 or DV as iMovie output format.
Click the small down arrow at the very right of the "Profile" to open the Profile drop-up list to select MP4, DV as output video format for iMovie Mac OS.

Fourth, Edit AVCHD video files using this video software. (I'm surprised to use these edit functions.)
Add special effect for AVCHD videos, including Gray, Old film, Emboss, etc.

Capture beautiful pictures from AVCHD digital recorders.
Change video properties such as brightness, contrast, saturation, etc.

Fifth, Click "Start" to convert MTS, M2TS videos to iMovie.
