Batch convert MPG to Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 on Mac

"I have large amounts of Video files which are in MPG format. I am trying to convert bunch of MPG videos to MP4 files so I can edit them on my Mac and later transfer/Stream H.264 MP4 to Galaxy Tab 10.1. I have tried programs online such as format factory and hand break, but after converting the file the quality is always reduced. How can I convert the files, so that I can have at least the same quality that I have on the camera and my DVDs? Any good software out there which supports MPG to MP4 batch processing?"
